NEW: The TimePulse Lambda
A $50K system for less than $2,490? For a COMPLETE audio system?
$50K+ performance for 20X less?
How is that even possible?
Read on and we’ll fill you in on a secret that may revolutionize the high-end audio world.
It started 12 months ago...
We heard something with TREMENDOUS promise, a new and relatively inexpensive full-range driver by Dayton Audio.
It’s the PS220, an 8” full-range driver which has great attributes but which can sound VERY aggressive if left untouched.
Then we heard a modified version of this by a “friend” in Peoria, and it had much more of what we like ... but... on closer examination, that mod was good but still not enough to be a true high end contender.
So, we got to thinking, how would this driver perform if we augmented it with a real woofer and then performed some Timbral Correction similar to what we did with our hugely expensive H3 system? Could we possibly do it on a less expensive DSP platform such as the Behringer DEQ2496?
So, we designed it as a completely time-aligned open baffle system, and carefully matched the elements to get closer to a constant directivity from top to bottom. Would these design criteria allow for better in-room performance and less room treatment to get optimal sound?
Well, we thought it would be good.
But it surprised us. It wasn’t just good, it redefined just how good it can get for under $50K!
This speaker pushes the upper envelope very, very hard, and in many aspects sets new benchmarks for performance.
And we’re able to make this available in kit form for between $1890 to $2490 and make life very hard for just about any system selling for under $50K.
Now, please note the above prices include the following:
1)A high quality DSP/DAC unit (or save $500 if you use a Mac)
2)Pre-assembled crossovers
3)Advanced DSP based Timbral correction filters
4)Pre-built and assembled speaker baffles for easy home assembly
5)Pair-matched full-range drivers and 15” augmenting woofers
6)Extremely easy assembly using just a few nuts and bolts.
Here’s the secret: We discovered how a driver’s “timbral signature” and time-smear distortion disrupts the spatial imaging capabilities. Then we figured out ways to fix it with specific DSP pre-filters to obtain utmost transparency.
With the integration of our Timbral Correction Filters, we are effectively able to remove the sonic aberrations from these otherwise extraordinary drivers.... remove the fingerprints and grime, the glass becomes transparent and suddenly you can see the view, in glorious detail. With many of the same Holographic Correction Filters used in our more expensive models, you get stunningly realistic reproduction. It just FEELS more like the real thing, and with these driver’s inherent dynamics, the Pace and Rhythm is astonishingly visceral.
And these speakers will play LOUD if need be. From Baroque chamber music, to full-scale orchestral, to intimate solo voices and full-scale choirs, these do ALL of the music justice.
We know some of you like technical details, so we’ve added some curves: the raw anechoic data (at 1dB/division!), the FR + distortion curves, and an actual unedited IN-ROOM measurement which gives an idea of the extreme linearity of this speaker’s response. But it’s the sound that counts, and we can tell you this: it’s good. Very good.
In kit form $1800 to $2300 depending on options.
Assembled $3000 to $3600 depending on finish.
